Google Jobs Search Feature Helps You Better Connect With Jobs Online In Nigeria

Jobs search within Google has now been streamlined to let you explore, research and find relevant/local job postings in Nigeria directly from your mobile phones and computers.

In other words, when you search for jobs on Google eg “sales jobs in lagos”, you will see search results displayed similarly as seen in the screenshot below :

And when you click on a job posting, you will be able to view at-a-glance details about the posting such as job title, location, whether it’s full-time, part-time or an internship as well as detailed information should a job be of interest.

google jobs search feature

You can as well save job searches and flip the switch on the list of job results to get email notifications when new jobs matching your search appear.

Using Google Maps integration, job seekers can search for jobs any place they can find on the map, and if they are signed in, they can even see how long it will take to commute to the job from home.

To optimise the Google jobs search feature and make it more useful, Google is working with a broad and growing cross-section of partners, such as Jobberman, NGCareers, MyJobMag and other job resource websites in Nigeria. These collaborations ensure Google is able to present job postings content accurately, as soon as it is posted, to exactly the people that will find it most relevant.

Speaking at the launch in Nigeria, the Google Country Director, Juliet Chiazor, said, “Finding employment is still very difficult for many people. This new job search experience will help the millions of Nigerians searching for new opportunities. We believe that the web allows anyone, anywhere, of any age, to grow their business, learn the skills they need to get a job, to grow in their career, become an entrepreneur or developer.

This new job search tool will be a key driver for connecting job seekers to open opportunities, helping more people to grow with Google.”

Chiazor added, “The launch of this new jobs’ search experience is part of our broader commitment to improve economic opportunities for job seekers and employers through Google technologies in partnership with the broader employment industry”.

Google is committed to providing useful, accurate and relevant information based on your search queries and helping you connect to your next job. In this way, we hope to make a contribution towards matching job seekers with jobs, and taking steps to tackle the skills gap.”

Mastercard Masterpass QR bot for Messenger Will Enable Nigerian Businesses Accept QR Payments

Mastercard is set to launch Masterpass QR bot for Facebook Messenger to help business owners in Nigeria move beyond cash transactions to accepting QR payments. This will allow individuals and small businesses make and receive payments in real time via Facebook Messenger.

Launched in 2016, Masterpass QR provides people with any type of mobile phone the ability to safely accept and make in-person purchases without cash or a plastic card. It provides greater choice in payments and complements Mastercard’s investment in contactless payments to provide merchants of all sizes – from international chains to individual shop owners and street vendors – a fast, secure and inexpensive way to accept payments.

Every business owner is looking for ways to increase sales and draw new customers into their stores. By offering QR-based digital payments, smaller retailers can achieve these goals and create greater customer stickiness with little to no investment beyond the phone they already have,” said Jorn Lambert, executive vice president, Digital Channels and Regions, Mastercard.

Brands and developers around the world are turning to messaging to connect with the 1.3 billion people who use Messenger each month,” said Kahina Van Dyke, director of Payments and Financial Services Partnerships at Facebook. “We are pleased that Mastercard is developing a service on the Messenger Platform to help small merchants use messaging to manage their business and connect with their customers.”

To get started, businesses can send a request to the bot to enable QR payments, receive approval from the bank, set up an account and start accepting digital payments in a fast, simple and secure manner. Once the account set up process is complete, business owners can print and display the QR code in their stores or save the code on their phones. Customers can pay by either scanning the code from their smartphone or by entering the merchant ID associated with the QR code into their feature phone.

According to a press release by Mastercard, Ecobank and Zenith Bank will support this inaugural program; the beginning of a larger plan by the two companies to include more businesses into the digital economy.

According to the MD/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc Mr. Peter Amangbo, ‘the Bank is partnering with Facebook and Mastercard to introduce Masterpass QR as a means of driving financial inclusion and creating a new payment ecosystem for MSMEs and consumers. This initiative will help us encourage financial inclusion within the country in line with the strategic thrust of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Buyers and sellers now meet and conclude transactions in-store, online and on social media, so we are ensuring payments can also be made on these platforms via QR codes, without having to log onto other solutions or even take a break from what you are doing on Facebook’.

In line with our goal to serve 100 million Africans by the end of 2020, Ecobank is delighted to collaborate with Facebook and Mastercard to enable underserved and unbanked micro-merchants with the opportunity to open an Ecobank account almost immediately and begin to receive instant payments using Ecobank Masterpass QR on the Facebook Messenger platform. Micro merchants in Nigeria are already benefiting from Masterpass QR and will soon be in 32 markets across Africa, enabling them to move away from cash. That is true economic empowerment,” said Patrick kinwuntan, Group Executive, Consumer Bank, Ecobank Group.

How To Show Related Posts With Thumbnails In WordPress Sidebar

There are lots of related posts plugins for WordPress that make it easy for you to show related content to users that read your blog posts, which somehow increases the number of pages people visit on your website and also reduces your site bounce rate. In this post, I want to share with you, how to show related posts with thumbnails in WordPress sidebar.

To get started, you need to install the “Related Posts by Taxonomy” WordPress plugin.

add related content to wordpress posts

The plugin helps you to increase your readers’ engagement by adding related posts in the sidebar or after post content with a widget or shortcode. The related posts widget for WordPress can be configured to display thumbnails or just links in a list format and you can set it to display related posts by category, tag etc.

Once you install the plugin on your WordPress site, navigate to “Appearance” > “Widgets” and drag the “related posts by taxonomy” widget to the sidebar.

Thereafter,

  • set the number of related posts to show
  • select the taxonomy e.g tags or categories
  • select “Post thumbnails” as display format
  • select display image size – medium image size option recommended
  • set “number of image columns” – 1 recommended
  • select “Link image captions to posts” so that the post titles can be linked
  • select “Display this widget on single post pages only” to hide it from homepage and archives.
  • click SAVE.

That’s all you need to do to add related posts with thumbnails to WordPress sidebar.

View your blog and you should see the related posts been displayed.

Note

  • You can use css to change the font size, remove underline and to hide it from displaying on mobile. You can check the css codes I used here.
  • You can also make it to display list of related posts below your posts on WordPress. Click here for the trick.

Samsung Max App Lets You Take Control of Data Usage, Privacy and More

Samsung Electronics has introduced Samsung Max, a new and free Android application designed to promote mobile data savings and application privacy management, with data usage monitoring and enhanced Wi-Fi security.

Samsung Max is replacing the discontinued Opera Max – one of the largest mobile virtual private networks (VPNs) in the world – and now, its two key features are accessible to millions of more Samsung users.

With data saving modes or privacy modes activated, all your network traffic from your apps is compressed and encrypted by Samsung Max’s servers before it reaches your Android device.

The app works by scanning users’ phones and identifying which apps are using the most data. It’s also able to actively compress images, videos, music files, and webpages in apps and browsers to save on data quotas. There are also options to manage data permissions for specific apps and to block auto background data usage.

If you’re often using public Wi-Fi, the app’s privacy features include a useful tool that encrypts open, untrusted, and unknown hotspots with just one tap. There is also tracker blocking and a Domain Name System (DNS) masking service.

To support the most advanced and FREE data savings service, and the powerful Secure Wi-Fi and Privacy protection service, Samsung Max shows ads to keep the services free. There is an option to control your ad experience. You can choose to view ads inside the app or enable Samsung Max App premium mode, which grants you access to powerful app management features and unlimited usage of savings and privacy services.

samsung max app for android

Samsung Max will come pre-loaded on all Galaxy A and Galaxy J series smartphones in India, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam. Users will be able to download Samsung Max on other Samsung devices via Google Play or Galaxy Apps stores.

Samsung Max is only supposed to be available to Samsung devices, but if you want to install the app on a non-samsung device for whatever reason, you can download the Samsung Max APK over at APK Mirror. It’s still listed under Opera Max for now since the package name hasn’t changed, but you can tell Samsung Max apart from older Opera Max builds by the blue icon.
